PAK-C08 · Certificate
Certificate in Railway Electrical Systems
6 Months · 12 two-week modules. The current curriculum architecture focuses on railway electrical systems, equipment interfaces and safe technical awareness.
Programme overview
A structured railway-learning pathway
PAK-C08 develops entry-to-intermediate railway electrical knowledge and supervised practical competence for learners preparing to work in rolling-stock maintenance, depots, workshops, production, inspection, commissioning-support and technical service environments.
The programme begins with electrical safety and fundamental circuit behaviour, then builds competence in measurement, schematics, wiring and connectors before progressing to batteries and low-voltage supplies, electrical machines, rolling-stock auxiliary systems, railway electrification interfaces, power electronics, relays/contactors/sensors, inspection, insulation and continuity testing, structured fault finding, earthing/bonding, EMC, maintenance quality and traceability.
The course is intended to be broader and more vocational than the two-year PAK-D03 Diploma in Railway Electrical & Control Systems. It prepares students to recognize, inspect, measure, document and perform selected controlled electrical-maintenance tasks under approved instructions, while leaving advanced traction-drive engineering, embedded control, detailed protection design, TCMS/network architecture and signalling engineering to higher-level or specialist programmes.
Academic orientation
Practical railway electrical-maintenance foundation covering electrical safety, circuits and measurements, drawings and wiring, batteries and low-voltage supplies, electrical machines, rolling-stock auxiliaries, traction-power awareness, power electronics, control devices, inspection/testing, fault finding, bonding/EMC, quality/traceability and supervised practical competence
PAK separates academic learning from statutory or employer authorization. Completion of academic study does not by itself confer authority to perform licensed, certified or safety-critical railway duties.

Curriculum
Progress from prerequisites into programme-specific technical depth.
The governed curriculum defines module or semester sequencing, prerequisites and technical scope. Programme pages present that structure without inventing credits, contact hours, assessment weights or regulatory claims that have not yet been approved.

Practical learning
Connect engineering concepts with components, systems and controlled exercises.
Practical activity may include workshop demonstrations, laboratories, simulations, component identification, measurement or case-study work where appropriate to the programme.
Academic practical learning supports understanding and judgement; it does not independently authorize safety-critical work.

Workshop & laboratory
Study railway systems in an environment that makes interfaces visible.
Rolling stock, mechanical, electrical, control, manufacturing and operations pathways use different practical contexts, but all retain the same principle: system understanding before unsupported competence claims.

Career pathways
Build knowledge relevant to railway technical and professional environments.
Career-pathway information is descriptive, not a placement guarantee. Roles, employer requirements, certifications and statutory competence remain dependent on the jurisdiction, employer and specific railway function.
